In this episode, I talk to artist and Archibald Finalist, Jandamarra Cadd who as an teenager left home to live on the streets and, his experience in Toowoomba's Westbrook Juvenal Detention Centre which was shut down 4 years after he was released. After being ill-treated at juvenal detention, Jandamarra stopped talking, until one day a councillor introduced him to painting and he found his way back and his life path again and a way to make a change. Through art. He also talks about being a finalist at the 2014 Archibald Prize, his different techniques using the more Aboriginal way of painting dots, to the more traditional Western way. Jandamarra also talks about how he met his partner Amy, the love for her and their children and no matter what has happened in the past, the importance of looking at the future and work on unconditional love.
